When we first came to Thailand 13 years ago to reach the Shan, our original plan was to start a Discipleship Training School (DTS) among them, but what we were not aware of, is that there wasn't enough Shan believers to start a DTS. We therefore had to change our strategy and directed our effort to evangelize the Shan. Over the years there has been hundreds of Shan that have heard the gospel, and many also have received Jesus and were baptized. A couple of years ago we already sent 8 of our Shan staff to do their DTS in the international DTS center here in Chiang Mai, and it was a life changing experience for everyone of them.
God has so many children here in Asia, and often the needs are enormous and overwhelming. Many times we scratch our heads wondering how we can help all these poor and needy children. As many of you know that we have a children's work in Fang, by letting them come to our learning center "school" where our local staff provides a basic educational program and lunch for them.
